Dear Parents, Health Promotion Administration (HPA) provides 7 times health examinations to children below 7 years of age. You just need to pay medical registration fee to enjoy health examination services for your child.

We urge parents and primary caregivers to take their children for scheduled health examinations at medical institutions as listed in the Children’s Health Booklet, for a better understanding on their child’s health status, early diagnosis of abnormalities and early intervention thus, laying the foundation for good health.

Dual approach: Free 7 times health examinations and health education guidance to protect the health of children below 7 years of age.

According to HPA statistics, during the past 2 years the average utilization rate of 7 times children preventive health care services was about 75% and still over 20% children did not complete the utilization of all 7 services.

HPA subsidizes 7 times free health examinations for children below 7 years of age, provided through institutions with pediatric or family medicine departments. Health examinations mainly includes: growth assessment (height, weight, head circumference), physical examination (hearing, eye, oral examination etc.) developmental evaluation (gross motor, fine motor, language expression) etc.

In addition, HPA also provides 7 free child health education guidance services to parents or primary caregivers on a one-on-one basis with physicians. Consultants are available if there are health and diet-related concerns.

Parents note: Remember to fill “Parent Records” section before health examination

Parents and primary caregivers are the most personal observers of children, but according to the 2013 National Health Survey, less than 50% (43.9%) parents completed the “Parent Records” section in the children’s health booklet before the inspection. HPA urges parents to observe the growth status of their children at home (refer to the children's development leaflet in the booklet to check the development status of the child) or if there are child-rearing issues, record it in the “Parent Records” section of the booklet before health examination, this will help paramedics to have more relevant information during child development assessment. If the child is diagnosed with developmental abnormality, the physician will inform parents about referrals for further medical attention.

To avoid parents running around, child health examinations provided by HPA has been integrated with the vaccination schedule provided by Centers for Disease Control, Taiwan, each health check-up is paired with 1 vaccination. Parents, please take your children to regular health check-ups as “the first wealth is your child’s health”. At present, about 3,540 medical institutions across the country provides child health examination services, which can be accessed through “child free health examination” on HPA website.
