How much you know about HPV vaccine?!
What is HPV?
Human Papillomavirus, known as “HPV”, is a DNA virus that can cause cancer.

Major transmission route ~ sexual contact
2.
High-risk type ~ According to the WHO statement as following, cervical cancer is caused by certain types of HPV in which two types (16 and 18) cause 70% of cervical cancer.

Diseases ~
(1)Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia
(2)Cervical cancer
(3)Cancer of external genitalia in both sex
Who are more likely to get HPV infection?
The lifetime risk of acquiring an HPV infection is 50-80% for a woman. Repeat infection occurs and people with multiple sex partners or people with a partner who have multiple partners and without safe sex may have higher risk of HPV infection. People who are immune compromised is also at higher risk of HPV infection that does not go away.
HPV vaccine prevents cervical cancer
HPV vaccine is an inactivated vaccine that induces immune response to make antibodies.
HPV vaccine may prevent 70% of cervical cancers.
REMINDER: HPV vaccine does not protect against all HPV types.
Seven out of 10 cervical cancer cases can be avoided by HPV vaccination.
Knowing HPV Vaccine
1.
The Protection of the Vaccine: Taiwan approves 3 HPV vaccines. All these three vaccines can prevent cervical cancers caused by major high-risk HPV types 16 and 18. The duration of protection is about 8 years.

Cost of the Vaccine:The price is about NT$3,000-7,000 per dose.
3.
Cost Subsidy of HPV Vaccine: The government offer publicly funded HPV vaccination for target population. For those who is not subsidized or do not want to receive publicly funded HPV vaccine can go to the hospitals or clinics for HPV vaccination paid by themselves.
Precautions for Use
1.
Before the Vaccination
(1)Learn more about HPV Vaccine.
(2)Decide to vaccinate (Vaccinator has to sign and fill the consent form).
2.
During the Vaccination.
(1)Inform past medical history or present symptoms and/or illness.
(2)Measure body temperature.
(3)Receive doctor’s assessment to determine whether you are appropriate to vaccinate.
3.
After the Vaccination
(1)Rest for 30 minutes before leaving.
(2)
If there is any adverse reaction at the scene, please inform the medical staff for help.
(3)
If you have any adverse reaction after leaving, please call service hotline 0800-88-3513 for help.
NOT Recommended to receive HPV vaccination
HPV Vaccination is not recommended for:
1.
Peoples with past history of allergic reactions after HPV vaccination
2.
People being pregnant
3.
People planning for pregnancy
4.
Specific medical history
If you have any illnesses, fever or infection or take medicine, please Inform the doctor to evaluate whether you are appropriate to vaccinate.
Side Effects of HPV Vaccination
Common Side Effects:
1.
Fainting, fever, headache, nausea
2.
Pain, swelling, redness, or itching at the site of injection
Remaining seated for 30 minutes after injection to observe if there is any side effects
What to do if you have side effects or adverse reactions?
If you have side effects or adverse reactions after receiving HPV vaccine
1.
Go to a medical institution and inform the doctor about your vaccination history for medical treatment.
2.
Please call  service hotline 0800-88-3515 for advice.
3.
Please contact the health bureau of the local government via the HPV vaccine consultation number.
4.
Please contact the Adverse Drug Reactions Reporting System (02 - 23960100) of the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration.
